FOUNDATIONS OF FAITH

Hebrews 6:1 states we should leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of Repentance from acts that lead to death, and of Faith in God, instruction about Baptisms, the Laying on of hands, the Resurrection of the Dead, and Eternal Judgment. Now the Milk of the Word.

The definition of a foundation is "the basis upon which a thing stands, is founded, or is supported". So now what are we going to build?

1 Corinthians 3:10 We need to build on no other foundation than that which Jesus Christ already laid for us.

Matthew 7:24, Jesus says those who hear His Words and puts them into practice, is like a man building his house on a solid rock foundation, and will be safe when storms hit.

Luke 14:28  Jesus also states that if you don’t count the cost and build a tower and lay a foundation and don’t finish it, this man will be ridiculed.

2 Timothy 2:14 We should be warned before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

Hebrews 5:11 states we have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's Word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone, who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

James 1:22-25 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at His face in the mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it- not forgetting what they heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do.

Now lets take the foundations one at a time and apply them to our lives.

Romans 10:4 Now Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Romans 11:19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off so I could be grafted in." Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

At this time the Jews are no longer the people of God. They rejected and killed the savior God sent them.

Now the foundations.

Repentance

Faith in God,

Baptisms,

Laying on of hands,

Resurrection of the Dead,

Eternal Judgment.

Foundations of Faith

1. If we are to build a foundation, is it based upon the church?

2. Does the Bible tell us where to begin studying and applying the foundation?

3. Is there something God expects of us first and foremost?

4. Is hearing God’s word (the Bible or directly) enough for you to say you have faith?

5. How many Baptisms are listed n the New Testament?

6. Which is the most common use of laying on of hands?

7. The day Jesus was raised from the dead, was he the only one raised from the dead?

8. Will there be a sign in the sky before Jesus appears in the sky?

9. Does the Bible say reincarnation is possible?

10. Only some people will make it through who end up at the Judgement Seat of Christ
